For PTE test day, bring your valid passport the standard accepted ID with the name matching your booking exactly, and arrive about 30 minutes early. You can’t take personal devices into the test room; the centre provides everything at the booth. A calm, rehearsed routine is the best way to protect the score you’ve trained for.
What should you prepare before test day?
The night before, confirm three things: your passport is valid and matches your booking name, you know your centre’s exact address and travel time, and you’ve had a proper rest. Do a light review, not a cram your score is already built; test day is about delivering it.
What are the ID rules and arrival time?
A valid passport is accepted everywhere for PTE, and the name on it must match your booking exactly. Even minor mismatches can stop you sitting the test. Some countries accept additional government IDs if you test within your country of citizenship, so check Pearson’s ID list for your country. Arrive about 30 minutes before your slot so there’s time for check-in which includes ID verification and a photo.
What can and can’t you bring?
Bring your passport and your booking reference that’s essentially it. Personal items, including phones, smartwatches, notes, bags and food, are stored in a locker and aren’t allowed in the test room. The centre supplies your headset, an erasable noteboard and pen, and the computer.
| Bring | Leave in the locker |
|---|---|
| Valid passport | Phone / smartwatch |
| Booking reference | Notes & study material |
| Yourself, rested | Bags, wallet, food & drink |
The centre provides the computer, headset, and an erasable noteboard with a pen, you don’t need to bring any equipment.
What are the test centres and booths like?
After check-in you’re shown to a booth with a computer and a headset, in a room shared with other test-takers doing various exams. You’ll do a microphone check before you start. Because speaking happens alongside others, expect some background noise through your headset and practise so it becomes a non-issue.
Knowing the layout in advance removes most test-day surprises. The microphone check matters: speak at a normal, clear volume so the system captures your speaking tasks accurately from the first word.
How do you protect your score on the day?
Stick to the technique you practised: keep your speaking fluent and steady even if a neighbour is loud, manage your time in the self-paced Reading block, and never leave a task blank. Nerves cost more marks than hard questions. A calm, rehearsed routine is your best score insurance.
Others will be talking. Keep your pace and volume steady — your headset handles the rest.
Reading is self-paced; bank the quick tasks and don’t over-dwell on any one item.
An educated guess always beats an empty answer attempt every task.
