now scores pre-prepared and memorised content as zero and once your Content score is zero, the response is never rated on fluency or pronunciation at all. Speaking is hit hardest, but the same rule governs your essay, both summary tasks and Retell Lecture. On seven task types, a human expert reads what you actually said or wrote before the score is finalised.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"la-prose\">\n<p>If you sat PTE before August 2025, scored 90, prepared exactly the same way, and came back with 65 nothing is wrong with your English. The thing being measured moved.<\/p>\n<p>This guide covers all four modules. It explains precisely what changed on 7 August 2025, why the students who prepared hardest were hit hardest, and exactly what to do differently in Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening. Nothing was removed. There was no separate 2026 format change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"la-prose\">\n<p>This matters more than it sounds, because almost every page you will find titled \u201cPTE Changes 2026\u201d is actually describing the August 2025 update.\u00a07 August 2025 is the only change date.\u00a0If you are searching for a 2026 change, there isn\u2019t one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong>Two new tasks were added.\u00a0Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation joined the Speaking section. PTE Academic now has 22 question types and 65\u201375 questions, and still runs about two hours \u2014 up to 2 hours 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong>Human experts began reviewing Content.\u00a0On seven task types, a person now reads what you actually said or wrote before your score is finalised. <strong>In Pearson\u2019s own words:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"la-quote\"><p>\u201cWhile all question types are scored by AI, some question types (Describe Image, Retell Lecture, Respond to a Situation, Summarize Group Discussion, Summarize Written Text, Write Essay and Summarize Spoken Text) also include a human expert review of the Content before the final score for the task is finalized.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>Pearson, PTE Academic Test Taker Score Guide<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"callout info\">\n<div class=\"ct\"><strong>\u2705\u00a0A human never marks your accent<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Pronunciation and Oral Fluency are still scored by AI alone. The human review covers Content only. If anyone has told you a person listens to your accent and marks it down, they are wrong.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"la-prose\">\n<p><strong>3. <\/strong>Australia moved its requirements on the same day.\u00a0This confuses more people than the test change itself, because it makes an identical score look worse than it used to. That is covered in full below.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"sec-2\" class=\"sec\">\n<h2 class=\"h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_did_your_PTE_score_collapse_when_your_English_did_not_change\"><\/span>Why did your PTE score collapse when your English did not change?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"answer\">\n<p>Because Content is a gate, not a category. If your Content scores zero, Pearson does not go on to assess your fluency and pronunciation they are never rated at all. A fast, confident, perfectly pronounced templated answer now earns nothing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"la-prose\">\n<p>Here is the mechanism, in Pearson\u2019s own words. Two sentences from the Score Guide, which need to be read together:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote class=\"la-quote\"><p>\u201cIf no response, or an irrelevant response is given, the Content is scored as 0. Responses that contain pre-prepared or memorized material are classified as irrelevant responses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Content score is greater than 0, the response will be rated on the two remaining traits: Pronunciation and Oral Fluency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><cite>Pearson, PTE Academic Test Taker Score Guide<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"la-prose\">\n<p>Read those together and the whole thing snaps into focus. Memorised material is classified as an irrelevant response. An irrelevant response scores zero on Content. And if Content is zero,\u00a0Pronunciation and Oral Fluency are never assessed.<\/p>\n<p>That is why the students hit hardest are the ones who prepared hardest under the old rules. Memorising a Describe Image template used to be the efficient play it freed you from thinking on your feet and let you focus entirely on sounding fluent. It is now the fastest available route to a zero.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking takes the heaviest damage because five of its tasks are content-marked, but the same rule reaches into every other module. A memorised essay introduction, a Summarize Written Text built from a recycled connector frame, and a Summarize Spoken Text scaffold with nothing specific in it are all exposed to exactly the same judgement.<\/p>\n<p>If your scores fell from 90 to 60\u201365 without your English changing, this is almost certainly the reason.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"sec-3\" class=\"sec\">\n<h2 class=\"h2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Do_PTE_templates_still_work_in_2026\"><\/span>Do PTE templates still work in 2026?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"answer\">\n<p>Templates are not banned the word does not appear in Pearson\u2019s malpractice policy. It is no longer a flat 79 in each. Speaking is now 88 a nine-point jump on the single hardest module to control, landing on the exact day Pearson started zeroing templated Speaking content. Speaking became the hardest requirement and the easiest score to lose, simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>This is also the most misreported number in the entire PTE ecosystem. Several migration and coaching sites still publish a flat \u201c79 in each\u201d; some have the table reversed; some invent an overall gate that does not exist. The myth survives because 79\u00a0<em>does<\/em>\u00a0still exist \u2014 as the overall figure alongside the components, not instead of them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"callout info\">\n<div class=\"ct\"><strong>\ud83d\udcc5<\/strong>\u00a0If you tested on or before 6 August 2025<\/div>\n<p>The old flat requirement of 79 in each component still applies to your result, and Home Affairs has confirmed those scores remain usable for visa purposes until 6 August 2028. Aim for 65\u201370. Under 5 words, over 75 words, or written in all capitals scores zero on Form, no matter how good the content is. Pick three to four key sentences, join them with \u201cand\u201d, \u201cfurthermore\u201d and \u201cmoreover\u201d, then change three or four words so it is not copy-paste.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Write Essay \u2014 20 minutes, 200\u2013300 words.<\/strong>\u00a0Aim for 230\u2013270. Spend the first 30\u201340 seconds reading and genuinely understanding the topic; the most common failure by a distance is a well-structured essay that answers a slightly different question. A three-sentence introduction that states your position, four to five sentences per body paragraph, a one- to two-sentence conclusion. Simple correct sentences beat ambitious broken ones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading.<\/strong>\u00a0The section runs about 23\u201324 minutes for 15\u201320 questions \u2014 roughly 90 seconds each. Reading marks are usually lost to one question you got stuck on, not to hard English. Answer and move. Prioritise both Fill in the Blanks types, then Re-order Paragraphs, and do not over-invest in the multiple-choice questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summarize Spoken Text \u2014 10 minutes, 50\u201370 words.<\/strong>\u00a0Five sentences, every time: \u201cThe lecture was about [topic].\u201d then \u201cFirstly\u2026\u201d, \u201cFurthermore\u2026\u201d, \u201cMoreover\u2026\u201d or \u201cHowever\u2026\u201d, and \u201cTo conclude\u2026\u201d. Our students scored 90 this month. What changed is not the ceiling it is which effort gets rewarded. Time spent memorising templates now returns nothing, and time spent on clarity and on having something relevant to say returns more than it ever did.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"la-prose\">\n<p>The students who are struggling are not worse at English than they were in July 2025. They are running a strategy that was correct under the old marking model and is actively counterproductive under the new one.
